Forgotten Sagas of the 13th Age
Ruins of Morfan
Morfan used to be a sprawling city near Stonebriar Hills which was presumably destroyed when the Wizard King was thrown down during the formation of the Dragon Empire. Facts are hard to come by with Morfan. Was it for, or against, the Wizard King? What did its people do for a living? How was it destroyed? Scholars and historians have theories, but few facts. Even spirits from that era that are questioned do not have answers. To that end, those same scholars and historians regularly fund expeditions to Morfan to recover whatever cultural artifacts that they can with which to piece together the true history of the city. Of course, treasure hunters and explorers also have reason to explore the ruins. Although the more valuable items are thought to be long gone, there are enough hidden vaults and secret chambers found from time to time to keep the hopeful coming back.
At various times, the ruins have been inhabited by all manner of unsavory person and creature. Bandits and kobolds have been the most common, but recently a band of orcs has taken up residence and many in Osis feel that the Orc Lord is using the ruins as a base camp from which to strike at the Empire. The 2nd Cohort and the 3rd Cohort at Oakrise Fortress don’t have the manpower to investigate themselves, so it may be adventurers who find out the truth of the matter.
